Science Field Trip: Students from Tokyo Gakugei University Senior High School Visit Sato Lab
On February 5, 2026, as part of a WPI-Bio2Q event, 25 students from Tokyo Gakugei University Senior High School visited our institute for a science field trip.
Of these, five students came to our laboratory, where Professor Sato gave a presentation introducing our organoid (mini-organ) research and the latest advances in studies aimed at deepening our understanding of disease and contributing to future therapies. The visit also included a guided tour of the laboratory, featuring cutting-edge instruments and equipment used in our research.
In the presentation, students were invited to consider the fundamental question of what constitutes “disease,” and organoid research was presented as a powerful approach to understanding aspects of disease that cannot be fully explained by genetic information alone. Professor Sato also shared concrete examples of how this research could shape the future of medicine, including challenges related to cancer recurrence and regenerative medicine.
During the Q&A session, students aspiring to enter medical school took part in an interactive exchange of ideas in a warm and relaxed atmosphere, discussing their reasons for pursuing medicine, their vision of the kind of physicians they hope to become, and the future of healthcare.
We hope this experience will help students appreciate the excitement of organoid research and other frontier fields, and inspire them as they consider future learning pathways and career choices.
